There are only a few things in this world I can say changed my life; a few of them being the show, Extreme Cheapskate, cats, the Rue Benedict (rueben + eggs benedict hybrid) from Portage Bay Cafe, social media, and #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso. This post is about #GIRLBOSS.
#GIRLBOSS came out almost two years ago, but I didn’t read it until earlier this month. My BFF, Rachel, who I like to say “has all the answers”, gave it to me for Christmas after I kept harassing her about my problems, and so-called quarter-century-life crisis. She said, “even if you don’t read it, you can Instagram it.” You better believe I read it and Instagrammed it. The book only took me a week to finish, which is a pretty quick turnaround, considering my jam-packed schedule. I laughed, I gasped, and I cried.
If you’re a Girl Boss, or even a Dude Boss, I highly recommend picking up a copy for yourself. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Sophia pretty much talks about everything you need to know, from the lessons she learned from working at sh*tty jobs, saving money, and how to write a cover letter and resume, to staying true to yourself. It’s not like any self-help book I’ve read, because Sophia is not only an amazing teacher, she is that older sister you can relate to that gives you tough love. She doesn’t sugar coat anything. SHE IS REAL. Ugh, writing this makes me want to read the book again.
Oh, and one of the best parts of all of this? SHELIKEDMYPICTUREONINSTAGRAM. I fangirled so hard.
Do you have a hobby that you wish was more of a career? What steps will you take to turn that dream into reality? Life is too short to not do what you love.
